Just Make It
Homemade Sweet
& Spicy Barbeque Sauce
Makes about 3 Cups
2 tablespoons canola oil
2 each — fresh garlic, finely diced
1/4 cup onion, finely dice
2 each — jalapenos, deseeded and diced
1 28-ounce can tomato sauce
3 tablespoons tomato paste
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons chipotle puree
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons smoked paprika
1teaspoon kosher salt/black pepper
Directions
Warm oil in a stockpot over medium heat.
Add garlic, onion, jalapeno and cook to soften, about 2 to 3 minutes.
Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, ketchup, water and bring to a boil.
Lower heat and let simmer for 10 minutes.
Add remaining ingredients and stir to combine.
Continue to cook until thick, stirring frequently — 30 to 40 minutes.
Remove from heat and puree with an emersion blender or place in a food processor and puree.
Use immediately or store in a covered container for up to two weeks.
